The face of violence has once again shown itself on one of our educational campuses. Florida State University in Tallahassee Florida is the latest scene on a lone shooter temporarily creating horror on our campuses. It is reported that a lone gunman entered the Strozier Library shortly after noon and shot three students. Campus police confronted the gunman who would not obey commands to put down his weapon and in fact threatened the officers. Officers shot and killed the man at that time.
It is tragic that this and others like it occur but it has become the norm. We cannot stop random and irrational acts of violence so we must learn how to deal with them. Our Security forces demonstrated that a quick and competent reaction to this type of crime is what is necessary. This is what was needed and this is what campus police did. This is what we all must prepare for. This is the new reality.
