Tampa Bay Division: The “New Frontier”

We have entered into the “brave new world” that many of us read about but didn’t understand. Our threats today are not limited to someone stealing our possessions or robbing or assaulting us as we go through our daily lives. The threat today is primarily from our technology. This is not to make one afraid of it; only to respect what it can do for us AND to us. Cyber crime is increasing at an ever quickening pace and from anywhere in or near the world. One can be victimized as quickly from someone working his computer on an island in the Caribbean, off the coast of Australia or next door. The threats today are pervasive primarily due to the safety of the perpetrators from criminal prosecution. Police often are still fighting the last threats whereas the real threat is hardly recognized. Jurisdiction of investigation and prosecution are yet to be understood let alone regulated. Hang onto your hats folks as it is going to get even more interesting!
