Tampa Bay Division: Income Tax Theft

Income Tax theft/fraud is an extraordinarily lucrative “calling ” for the modern day criminal. Street crimes are down significantly as the smarter criminals are using computers rather than guns to steal from people. The risk is less, no night work and the rewards are better. In addition to the relative ease of stealing using computers and identity theft the penalties are less severe. Our world has changed and we must change our mindset if we are going to increase our effectiveness in preventing crime. The old policing model is no longer as valid as it was even ten years ago; chasing “bad guys” is no longer done on the street but in our high speed computers. A significant problem is that computer crimes are easily committed out of country so enforcement is difficult due to jurisdiction and follow up. An old Chinese saying is “may you live in interesting times” … well we ARE living in “interesting times”. Now we have to decide how to make them less “interesting”.
