During the summer months many companies hire seasonal staff to assist in the busier tourist season. Employers are sometime under pressure to hire a number of employees “fast” and feel that they don’t have the time for due diligence. Employers should realize that the increased risk of hiring part time or seasonal staff due to the lack of sense of long term relationship being established and the lack of loyalty to the employer. New hires or part timers may have an easier time rationalizing their illegal activities. As employers we may not have all the tools to prevent problems that we have with full time or regular staff but we should take all reasonable steps to eliminate the opportunity for crimes to be committed.
