Orlando Division: Hospital Workplace Violence

Hospital security staff are increasingly using proactive measures to prevent and or mitigate workplace violence. Heath care workers are increasingly aware of the costs in human and financial terms of not dealing with this issue in an assertive manner. Hoping that bad things don’t happen is NOT a plan. Health care workers need to keep in mind that seventy five percent of perpetrators of violence in a health facility are patients. It should also be noted that it is the Security staff who are injured most often.  Security staff trained and equipped with Tasers are forty one percent less likely to be injured as a result of workplace violence.  Something to keep in mind when considering the cost of providing the equipment and training to Safety and Security personnel.
