Politicians and “wanna be” politicians MUST be careful with their words. I don’t mean to censor what we say but we need to understand the consequences of using inflammatory words often it seems, just to get attention. Politics is an honourable profession!! It is where our best and brightest should go to serve their people. It seems that today we often have to choose from our second team rather than the best our society has to offer.
The media plays a roll in this change. The media also wants its “15 minutes of fame”. It often gets it by yelling the loudest and proclaiming the most outrageous accusations against people who have stood to run for public office. No one would dispute the need for ALL of us to be vigalent but not everyone should be considered evil or self serving for letting their name stand for pubic office.
We have a robust democracy but it should not be treated as if it was indestructible… it is not. So before we tear our politicians and our institutions apart perhaps we should reflect on the manner in which we protest.
