Competitions and other events such as these are scheduled just about every week with very little to no security. The article goes on to tell about one patron’s concern, that is echoed by by society, about security at such events.
Derek Jones of Santa Fe, New Mexico, came to Jacksonville to compete in the Madden tournament and was sitting in a fenced-in patio outside the venue when he heard the gunshots Sunday. Jones, 30, said he jumped the fence and ran.
Jones said he didn’t notice any security — either private security guards or off-duty police officers — at the venue. He said it’s a complaint he’s had with tournament organizers in the past.
“I’ve been telling them this for a while that you need to make the players feel safe,” Jones said.
It is heartbreaking to hear about situations such as these. Our hearts here at Curtis Security go out to the victims and their families.
Security is an important topic that needs to be acted upon. Event coordinators, employees, schools, communities, and apartment managers, need to take responsibility.
The size of the event or business doesn’t matter. Jason Lake, CEO of the esports team compLexity Gaming tweeted,“Sad day and a WAKE UP CALL for organizers large and small. It’s time esports events (large and small) double down on security for everyone in general and players specifically.”
