Jacksonville Division: Police Under Fire!

American police officers are under “fire” now for the behavior of the few bad officers who have now tainted the entire profession. The bad officers are not alone to blame; so are the good officers who stood by in silence knowing the behavior of the criminal officers and did NOTHING. Remember “all that is required for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing”. I believe that it will take a generation of professional policing before the bitter memory of the injustices conducted by the few will begin to fade. Every good officer knows who the bad cops are in their departments. EVERY Officer shares the guilt and responsibility for the conduct of the bad ones because we knew them and did nothing. Policing should be a profession not a trade. It’s not good enough to be technically proficient. The practice must be conducted with honor, duty and an understanding that we SERVE the public. We will all “take the hit” as we should but that does not allow us to continue to do nothing. Clean up your departments, start the process to rid ourselves of these bullies and stupid people who denegrade our profession. We owe it to the public and to the good men and women whos shoulders we all stand on.
