Over the past few weeks we have witnessed on the nightly new the wild fires that are burning in the west. We have seen thousands of acres of forest go up in smoke along with the homes, businesses and vehicles. So often we will watch these events unfold and hear the same stories from those interviewed. Inevitably you will hear people say that they never thought that this would happen to them. We ought to be thinking, “There but for the grace of God go I”. We must have at least a preliminary plan for events such as these natural disasters. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or wild fires all could happen, and will happen to some families this year and every year. We often think that if this was to happen to us the government will be here to assist. That may be true but as we have seen from the Hurricane Katrina to the wild fires or floods, the government cannot always be there when we need them. These events often overwhelm all our resources at least for a while. We must have a plan in place to survive these events. We have a duty and a responsibility.
