Jacksonville Division: Cargo & Inventory Thefts

Cargo and Inventory thefts have reached an all time high in 2012 and 2013. In addition to the number of significant theft are the increased value of the thefts. Criminals have recognized the value in stealing entire shipments. Shipments are often found in containers which are by design easy to move. The average cargo theft is valued at $242,000. Criminals are also using containers to steal items but also to bring contraband into the country. Shippers traditionally have been more interested in protecting their tractors than the shipments but in order to address this increasing problem the shippers and the transporters will have to take a coordinated approach to address this problem.
