Photo by digidreamgrafixThe crime rate in Atlanta, GA has dropped since the late 1990s, but authorities are still taking measures to reduce it further.

In 2012, Atlanta’s city council voted to spend an additional $2.25 million on security, mostly security cameras, throughout the city. These additional cameras bring the number up to more than 750 around the urban area. The existing crime rate is thought to be adversely affecting tourism as well as business development in the downtown area.

According to Neighborhood Scout, Atlanta is safer than only 1% of US cities, with a 1.45% chance of being the victim of a violent crime. That’s compared to a .37% chance in Georgia. There are, on average, 289 crimes per square mile annually, with the national average being 39.6.

If you live in Atlanta, what can you do? While the extra security cameras will assist police in deterring and apprehending suspects, there’s only so much the police force can do with limited resources and budget. Taking security into your own hands with security cameras or security guards is a good way to make sure your company, community, or facility is well protected. Curtis Protective Services security guards are fully trained and ready to serve you. Curtis is now serving the greater Atlanta area. Contact us today for more information.
