Photo by franky242The Boston Marathon is historically one of the busiest times of year for retail businesses and restaurants along the route. Beyond the reputation boost that the city enjoyes, the Wall Street Journal reports that the marathon has an estimated economic impact upwards of $140 million. This year, of course, it was a different story.

Some local businesses are estimated to have $40,000 or more in losses per day due to forced closings as a result of the explosions and the subsequent sweeps, cleanup, and manhunt. Some employees were unable to return to work for several days, not to mention customers were not really in the mood for trendy retail shopping sprees and sushi lunches that the posh Back Bay area has to offer.

Despite the difficulties, Boston residents are striving to return to normalcy. The customers who are out and about do so out of a sense of civic pride and the desire to go back to the way things were.

Once the more global security concerns in Boston have subsided, regular, day-to-day security needs will resume. Security lessons from Boston can be applied to every city in America, including the need to have safety and security guards at commercial locations, looking out for employees and customers. If you’re in Florida or Georgia and have the need for safety and security guards at your locations, give us a call.
