Some may speculate if global warming is true or not but one thing we have lots of evidence of is erratic weather. We see droughts followed by flooding in the west. We see peaceful flowing streams become raging rivers in a matter of hours. People and communities are taken by surprise, not that we haven’t been warned, we just don’t believe much anymore. Now more than anytime in the recent past we must be prepared to defend ourselves and our loved ones from danger. The danger could be in the form of a armed robber or a raging river. Like all things we have to weigh the risks against the benefits but not being prepared or simply hoping for the best is NOT a plan. Talk to your family about what to happen should a disaster occur in your area. Don’t count on public services being available as we witnessed with Hurricane Katrina. Remember that the police and fire personnel are going to taken care of their families first. If your region get hit you must have a plan to protect them and provide for them for a minimum of 72 hours, possibly longer. Start getting emergency items stored away. You may not need them but if you do you will be happy you planned ahead…as will your family.
