Atlanta Division: Politicians DUTY to be HONEST!!

Politicians have a Special duty to be honest when they speak. During the lead up to the American Presidential election we are hearing candidates express views that they know to be false and inflammatory. We know to expect some “puffery” during elections but for candidates to knowingly and recklessly state things that are inflammatory and false borders on criminal. The people are running for elected leadership roles that are to represent ALL the people in their respective jurisdictions NOT just the radical. These candidates can have significant influence of people. Fanatics may interpret wild and inflammatory statement to be a “call for action”. Once that fire has been set we don’t always know where it will stop. For people of influence to recklessly disregardful the logical consequences of their actions MUST be held responsible for them to the full extent of the law. Criminal and civil prosecutions of those who inflame violence and intolerance should be conducted. Free Speech is a cornerstone of our democracy and that is not to be repressed but we all understand that one ought be held accountable if one shouts fire in a theater KNOWING that it is not true.
