Atlanta Division: Police Under Investigation

Increasingly we are seeing politicians requesting that their own police agencies be investigated. We have seen this recently in Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Ferguson. Why is this being done? Local politicians don’t want to be seen as not supporting their own police departments yet they know something is very wrong inside them! Politicians are seeing and hearing about alleged abuses and need additional political power to deal with departments that could hurt them politically. Often these investigations are the only practical tool that can be employed to achieve the changes within those police departments. Too often Officers “go along to get along” and this leads to abuses as we have seen. Policing is a tough business because Officers deal with such a broad range of people and values ALL under intense scrutiny from the public and the courts…as they should be! Police Departments need this over site,  local politicians need the support and the public needs to be protected from ANYONE who breaks the law.
