tampaHomelessness: Many communities are becoming increasingly aware of the people in our communities that are homeless. One of the things that Trump was able to capitalize on during the Presidential campaign was the feeling of helplessness felt by many people in the country. We seen the evidence of people who once were able to financially take care of themselves and their families falling off the economic wagon. This is primarily happening because of globalization; the work that used to be done by low skill labor is now being done by low skill labor in other countries. The auto worker that used to make $50,000 a year plus benefits is no longer economically feasible because it is a low skill job that poorer nations will do for less cost. The low skill jobs that are left in fast food and other low skill jobs just don’t pay very well and seldom come with health care of other benefits. I would love for the solution to be easy: it is simple but it is not easy. People have to be trained to be higher skilled, not hire skilled from their neighbors but higher skilled than the person they are competing against in China or Viet Nam. Protest won’t make us more competitive nor will trying to close our borders. We must prepare to compete with the world, not our neighbors.
