Photo by think4photopAlthough we don’t deal with earthquakes as they are doing so in Japan these last few days, we have a duty to have a plan if a natural disaster hits our regions. We suffer under hurricanes, tornadoes, torrential rains and hail among other natural disasters. It is our duty as professional Safety/Security Officers to have a plan. In developing a plan we all must remember that we, in all probability won’t be able to count on public services as they and their families will be suffering under that same conditions we are under. The police and fireman, ambulance services and 911 operators may not be able to get to work. We must be able to take care of ourselves and our charges for a minimum of three days: Food, water, medical supplies. If we wait for the last minute we may very well find ourselves “Lost”. Keep in mind that not all disaster give us fair warning as hurricanes do … if you doubt that think of Japan today!
