Changes are occurring faster and more frequently. Significant changes from social unrest to the industrial revolution used to take centuries, then decades; now days. In order to survive one will have to be adaptable, in order to thrive one will have to not just adapt but to take advantage of opportunities that may present themselves for a very short time. It is not just our neighbor that we compete with but all the neighbors from around the world. We are in a VERY competitive world which is hungry for development and opportunity.
