Photo by Salvatore VuonoMillions of dollars in electronic equipment was stolen from various warehouses recently. The thefts were well organized and efficiently executed. It appears that persons unknown became aware that millions of dollars in electronic equipment was being stored in relatively unprotected warehouses. They came prepared to steal millions of dollars of equipment. They entered the warehouses by simply cutting a hole through the drywall, entering the building, cutting the internet and alarm wires along with the phone lines. Once the building was isolated they proceeded to load the “in the box” equipment into trucks and drove off. What is particularly ironic is that the security system  could have prevented the thefts had the owners simply used the current safety and security technology that is available for a few hundred dollars. We can anticipate more heists similar to this as it appears to have been relatively easy as the warehoused were protected with entry level security systems. Insurance companies may want to see better protection if they are going to continue to insure such high value items.
